ED. #1: THE BASICS OF BRANDING
Welcome to Marketing Minute!
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Marketing Minute! Each Saturday morning, we’ll deliver bite-sized marketing insights designed to help you elevate your business.
“Branding” is a hot-button term these days, but what does it actually mean?
More than just a logo or a catchy slogan—branding is the essence of your business.
It is the emotional and mental reaction people have–if they have any reaction at all–when they think of your business.
Branding consists of many elements from your logo and color scheme to the attitude you portray with your business and the products or services you offer.
Here are the key elements to consider as you develop your brand:
Define your identity: How do you present yourself to your customers & how do you differentiate yourself from your competitors?
How is this conveyed by your logo, typography, slogan and marketing campaigns?
Know your audience: Who are your ideal customers? Tailoring your branding to resonate with them is crucial.
Understand how your target audience communicates and adapt to match that voice.
Consistent messaging: Ensure your brand voice and visual elements are consistent across all platforms—website, social media, and marketing materials. This builds recognition and trust.
People are less likely to do business with someone that can’t make up their own mind.
Create a narrative: People connect with storytellers. What is the backstory of your business?
How can your audience relate to your story and how can you help them change their own narrative?
Do not fear change: As your business grows, so will your brand. It is okay to change or to rebrand your business–you just have to be strategic and thorough about it.
Action item: Take a moment to review your current branding.
Does it reflect who you are and what you stand for?
Do you have a consistent brand?
How would a complete stranger view your business?
